Preti Flaherty Promotes Attorneys Michael S. Smith to Partner and Nathan R. Fennessy to Director

Preti Flaherty is pleased to announce that the firm’s partnership has named attorney Michael S. Smith as a partner and attorney Nathan R. Fennessy as director. Smith practices in the firm’s Litigation and Health Law Groups and is based in the Portland, Maine office. Fennessy is a member of the firm's Litigation, Construction Law, and Government Affairs Groups and works in the firm’s Concord, New Hampshire office. Both previously practiced as associates.

Fennessy focuses his litigation practice on representing public and private companies in the construction, healthcare, and financial services industries in a variety of complex commercial matters in state and federal courts. Prior to joining Preti Flaherty in 2013, Nathan practiced law in Washington, D.C., for five and a half years with the international law firm Reed Smith LLP. During law school, Nathan interned for the United States Department of Justice—Asset Forfeiture and Money Laundering Section and The Honorable Mary Ellen Coster Williams at the United States Court of Federal Claims. Fennessy is a native of Dover, New Hampshire and earned his law degree from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.

Smith brings to Preti Flaherty broad national and international legal experience. His practice is focused on commercial and antitrust litigation, criminal and internal corporate investigations, and regulatory issues affecting health care providers. Prior to joining the firm, Mike was a senior associate in the New York and Boston offices of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP, an international law firm. In addition, Smith served for six months in 2010 as a Special Assistant District Attorney in the Middlesex District Attorney's Office in Massachusetts, where he managed a caseload of over 200 criminal matters. He is a native of Whitefield, Maine and earned his law degree from Boston College Law School.
