Preti Flaherty Attorney Michael S. Smith Elected President of Cumberland Bar Association

Preti Flaherty is proud to announce that attorney Michael S. Smith was elected president of the Cumberland Bar Association at the CBA Annual Meeting on March 25, 2020. As president, Mike will work with the Executive Director and General Committee to serve as a conduit of information between the bench and the bar, develop and provide continuing legal education programming, welcome new members of the bar to the Cumberland County legal community, and ensure that the CBA continues to offer the valuable services that its members depend upon.

The CBA is one of the oldest organized bar associations in the United States and the largest county bar association in Maine. With more than 500 regular and honorary members, consisting of licensed legal practitioners, justices, and judges from throughout the state, its ongoing mission is to improve the professional lives of its members and promote knowledge and excellence in the practice of law. Officers and General Committee members are elected at the Association’s Annual Meeting.

Mike is a member of Preti Flaherty’s Litigation, Antitrust & Competition, and Health Law practice groups and co-chair of the firm’s Recruitment Committee. He litigates class action cases throughout the United States, represents Maine businesses in commercial litigation and administrative proceedings, and counsels healthcare providers on regulatory issues. Mike has been recognized by Super Lawyers as a “New England Rising Star” and, in 2019, was named to Benchmark Litigation’s “40 & Under Hot List.”
