Court Orders State Police to Reveal More Details About Misconduct by Troopers
Previously concealed records of trooper misconduct by the Maine State Police must be provided in response to public records requests by the press, according to a ruling by Judge William R. Anderson of Penobscot Superior Court. According to the lawsuit, news investigations into the nature of trooper misconduct and related disciplinary action were stymied by an alleged secretive process in the Department of Public Safety that limited the window during which employee records were available prior to destruction. The results of this case will help improve the public's ability to hold troopers and the department accountable for their actions and processes.
