Attorneys Benjamin Piper and William Whitney Join Preti Flaherty

Portland, ME and Concord, NH (September 15, 2011) – Preti Flaherty is pleased to announce that Benjamin Piper and William Whitney have joined the firm as associates. Piper will practice Litigation from the firm's Portland, ME office. Whitney will also practice Litigation and is based in the Concord, NH office.

Benjamin Piper previously served as a law clerk to the Honorable John A. Woodcock at the United States District Court, District of Maine. While in law school at the University of Wisconsin Law School, Piper served as Managing Editor of the Wisconsin International Law Journal. While earning his law degree, Piper held internships within the Legal Department at Unum. Prior to law school, he held an internship at the Offices of Senator Olympia Snowe.

Piper earned his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and a law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School. He is admitted to practice in Maine and is a native of Falmouth, ME.

William Whitney previously served as a Litigation associate with Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP in New York. He also served as a volunteer attorney in the Civil Division of the New Hampshire Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General, and as a judicial law clerk to Judge Scott W. Stucky at the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. While attending Cornell Law School, Whitney served as a Legal Intern with the First Amendment Project, a non-profit law firm dedicated to First Amendment litigation. He also served as a Managing Editor of the Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy.

Whitney earned his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College where he was awarded the "Story Prize" for best philosophy thesis. He is admitted to practice in New York and is a native of New York City, NY.
