Preti Flaherty Attorneys Mariana Baron and Nelson Larkins Honored by Maine Supreme Judicial Court for Pro Bono Service

Preti Flaherty is pleased to announce that attorneys Mariana Baron and Nelson Larkins have been honored by the Katahdin Counsel Recognition Program for their 2021 contributions to pro bono legal aid in the state of Maine.

Created by the Justice Action Group of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court, the Katahdin Counsel Recognition Program’s mission is to draw attention to the critical role pro bono publico plays in maintaining a vibrant civil justice system and to encourage more lawyers to provide such services for Maine's low-income residents. In a time when funding for civil legal services is dwindling and the need for representation is growing, Maine lawyers are among the most generous in the nation in donating their time to pro bono representation for people who cannot afford an attorney and by donating money to support legal aid.

In 2021, the Maine Supreme Judicial Court honored 152 Maine attorneys with Katahdin Counsel status for generously providing fifty or more hours of pro bono civil representation. More information about the Katahdin Counsel Recognition Program, including a complete list of honorees, can be found here.
