Vic is an intellectual property attorney with more than 30 years of experience. He was previously a Senior Partner and one of the Managing Partners of the IP firm Weingarten, Schurgin, Gagnebin & Lebovici, which has since merged with Preti Flaherty. He currently practices in the firm's Boston office as a Director within Preti Flaherty's Intellectual Property Practice Group.

Vic has represented large and small corporations, universities, venture-funded start-ups and individuals to address their intellectual property needs in a manner consistent with their specific objectives. He maintains long-term relationships with his clients and remains involved in all matters from the initial engagement to assure that the client's objectives are pursued expeditiously and in a cost-effective manner.

His practice includes the oversight of large worldwide patent and trademark portfolios and the prosecution of patent and trademark applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Vic has been called upon to conduct and support intellectual property audits being conducted by buyers and sellers in M&A transactions; negotiate and draft license, development, confidentiality, marketing, distribution and other technologically based agreements; perform patent clearance studies in advance of new product introductions; design around patents of other parties; and prepare patent infringement and validity opinions.

Vic has participated in numerous patent litigations and arbitrations including strategic counseling, discovery, depositions and motion practice through both jury and bench trials and appeals.

Prior to commencing law practice, Vic worked for 11 years within a number of technology-based organizations including The Naval Underwater Systems Center (NUSC), Polaroid Corporation, GRI Computer Corporation and Raytheon Data Systems. During this period, he designed complex electronic instrumentation, software control systems, minicomputer memory systems, address translations units, computer interfaces and analog circuitry and held positions as an electrical design engineer, a principal engineer, a group leader and a staff assistant to the director of engineering. This experience afforded Vic the opportunity to obtain valuable insight into the many considerations that factor into the creation of a company's intellectual property assets.
