Lawmakers consider bill to protect water quality of Maine lakes

Portland Press Herald

Maine lawmakers are considering a bill that would require the inspection of septic systems prior to the sale of any lakeside property, an extension of a law that has governed seaside properties since 2007. Attorney Andrew Cashman, who represents the Maine Association of Realtors, told lawmakers that it's "nearly unheard of" for a buyer to decide not to have a septic system inspected, and that a well informed buyer is capable of making that choice without a state mandate.
