Preti Flaherty Assists Pleasant River Lumber in Obtaining a Design Patent

Portland, Maine (Feb 12, 2009) – Preti Flaherty is pleased to announce that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued a design patent to the firm's client, Pleasant River Lumber Company of Dover-Foxcroft, Maine. U.S. Patent No. D586,482 was issued on February 10, 2009 for a design of a United States flag imprinted on a piece of lumber. Preti Flaherty prepared and filed the patent application for this design and guided Pleasant River Lumber through the patenting process.

According to attorney Michael Lane, the decision to patent the imprint design was based on his client's interest in distinguishing its brand as a producer of American-made wood products. "Every piece of lumber sold by Pleasant River Lumber clearly reinforces the message of producing and buying American products. In this turbulent economy, the effort to patent this concept will ideally lead to heightened brand recognition and increased sales."

Pleasant River Lumber is a family-owned facility that produces 85 million board feet of spruce dimension lumber annually from its central Maine site located in the town of Dover-Foxcroft, Maine.
