Portland, Maine - Preti Flaherty attorney Todd Griset received
his diploma for the Master of Environmental Studies degree program from the
School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Philadelphia on Monday, May 15,
2006.
His thesis, "Instituting Legal and Organizational Regimes for Comprehensive
Arctic Environmental Protection," addresses the unique environmental and legal
realities of the north polar environment that result in essentially unregulated
pollution of the Arctic with chemical contaminants. He provides an
overview of the nature and scope of Arctic chemical contamination, then address
the jurisdictional issues of the Arctic, an area almost entirely beyond the
sovereignty of any nations. Todd concludes by proposing legal and
organizational structures that will allow humans to cooperate on an
international scale to provide greater protection from chemical contamination to
the Arctic environment. His paper represents a synthesis of
science and policy that Todd hopes readers will find both informative and
useful in moving toward a comprehensive Arctic regulatory scheme.
Todd joined Preti Flaherty in 2002 and practices with the Environmental,
Energy and Litigation Practice Groups. He is a graduate of the University
of Pennsylvania Law School and Dartmouth College.
