January 4, 2006 – Portland, ME – Preti Flaherty announced today that attorney
David B. Van Slyke was recently re-elected to the Board of Directors of Maine
Handicapped Skiing and named Vice President of the organization. David has
volunteered with MHS since 1994, has been on its Board of Directors since 1999
and serves as the organization’s pro bono General Counsel.
Maine Handicapped Skiing is a non-profit organization with the largest
year-round adaptive recreation program in Maine. Its mission is to promote
year-round education and training for adults and children with physical
disabilities in order to develop skills and provide enjoyment through active
recreation. The organization sponsors and encourages participation in
outdoor recreation to foster a sense of pride, confidence and self-esteem that
will carry over into the participants’ everyday lives. MHS programs are
offered free of charge and are funded entirely through donations from
individuals and businesses throughout Maine and New England.
David is chair of the firm's Environmental Practice Group. A nationally
recognized environmental lawyer with a distinguished career at the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Washington, D.C., he joined Preti
Flaherty in 1991. A Partner in the Portland office, he directs the firm's
work in hazardous waste matters and is an active participant in all aspects of
its environmental practice, including compliance counseling, environmental
audits, defense of enforcement actions, due diligence in business and lending
transactions and environmental risk management.
