Following is an excerpt from the Scarborough Marsh Progress Report, thanking
Preti Flaherty for work done on behalf of the organization.
Government sometimes has a way of making the formation of a voluntary
organization such as Friends of Scarborough Marsh exceedingly complex. Thanks to
the public spirited attitude of the Preti Flaherty firm, the formal organization
of Friends was achieved. The firm provides a wide range of commercial and
personal legal services from offices in Portland, Augusta, and Bath.
Virginia "Ginger" Davis, of the firm's Augusta office, ably assisted by
several others in the firm, developed, on a purely pro-bono basis, the necessary
documents and guidance to become a legally functioning non-profit corporation.
By-laws, Maine Charitable Solicitations Act registration, and a 501(c)3 Tax
Status application are among the reams of red-tape they handled on Friends'
behalf.
In addition, Rick Stauffer, of the firms' Portland headquarters office,
provided sound guidance in the development of our consulting services agreement
with Normandeau Associates for the Marsh Strategy. Also the firm has joined
Friends at the "Protector" membership level. Kudos to the firm and their staff
for "giving back".
Preti Flaherty has offices in Portland, Bath and Augusta, Maine, Concord, NH and Boston, MA. With more than 80 attorneys, the firm counsels clients in the areas of business law, energy, environmental, estate planning, health care, intellectual property, labor and employment, legislative and regulatory, litigation, technology and telecommunications.
