Handling the Holidays in the Classroom
News and Events : Event
November 12, 2004

HO HO HO…The holidays are coming – and with them, questions about whether and how you can recognize them in your classrooms and schools.  Do you have a Christmas break?  How about a Christmas calendar? Or a holiday concert with Christmas carols or sacred music? Or a tree…a crèche … a menorah?

Attend this breakfast briefing and learn how to handle these holiday concerns and get the answers to the following (and other) questions:

  • How can you use holiday decorations without violating the First Amendment prohibition against governmental endorsement or promotion of a religious point of view?
  • Are school performances of music, literature or art that recognize the holidays permitted?
  • What should you do about students who want to give everyone at school candy canes with religious messages or even plain candy canes?
  • What should you do about students whose religion forbids holiday celebrations and/or students who feel left out because they cannot participate?

This session will be held from 8 - 9:15 am. Continental breakfast provided. There is no cost, but space is limited. RSVP by November 11th to Kim LeBlanc at 207-791-3224 or by email: kleblanc@preti.com.
