Bio

Tim Platt joined Preti Flaherty in September of 2005 to lead its M&A and securities groups. His practice focuses on corporate development, finance and governance, drawing on his successful experiences serving on corporate Boards and as a senior executive, investment banker, investor and principal, business advisor, and lawyer.  

Prior to joining Preti Flaherty, he led and advised companies for more than 20 years in corporate governance and corporate development and corporate finance activities, and has particular expertise in acquisitions and divestitures, business alliances and ventures, placing debt and equity securities, secured debt and workouts, and strategic planning and organizational development. Tim has served companies in the telecommunications, software, technology, e-business, financial institutions, manufacturing, hospitality, and professional services sectors.

Tim joins PretiFlaherty following several years as a principal of AreteCapital Group (ACG), a boutique regional investment bank serving Northern New England registered with NASD and a member of SIPC that specialized in private capital formation, MBOs and other M&A transactions, and corporate finance.  At ACG,he led the Software, Telecommunications and Technology Group and was responsible for several successful private capital raises, technology acquisitions and alliances for numerous companies.  While working with Arete, Tim served on the senior management teams of several of the firm’s technology portfolio companies.

Tim has also served as president and director of TrueComm, Inc., a privately held early stage communications software company.  Before that, he was vice president, corporate development and strategic planning, and general counsel of Chemfab Corporation, a NYSE publicly traded global high performance polymer materials company, where he co-led a robust and very active mergers and acquisitions program and led the creation, development and operation of the company’s industry-leading e-commerce unit.

Following graduation from Yale College and Cornell Law School, Tim was a director and shareholder of Orr & Reno, P.A., a full service law firm based in Concord, New Hampshire, where his practice concentrated on corporate finance and governance. Tim was formerly a registered principal holding the National Association of Securities Dealers’ Series 24, 62 and 63 licenses.

In the community, Tim writes regularly on corporate governance and corporate finance topics as a solicited columnist for Mass High Tech, New England’s largest business journal for technology companies. Tim sits on the Boards of Directors of the New Hampshire High Technology Council, the MIT Enterprise Forum of New Hampshire (Chair 2007--), the Concord Boys & Girls Club (Chair 1998-2001), and PlusTime, an organization that develops out-of-school time programs for youth. Previously, while serving as chair of the Technology Committee of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, Tim helped design and launch Manchester, NH’s first wireless hotspot.
