Alfred C. Frawley brings to the firm nearly thirty years of experience in a wide range of legal fields, with particular concentration in complex business litigation and intellectual property law. A Partner of the Intellectual Property and Corporate/Commercial and Business Services practice groups, he practices from the firm's Portland office.

Fred is one of Maine's most experienced attorneys in intellectual property, antitrust, trade regulation and employment law. He has extensive experience serving international legal and business clients and is recognized for his ability to analyze, negotiate and resolve complex legal problems before litigation becomes necessary. He is a frequent speaker on trademark and employment issues.

Fred practiced for 16 years as a partner with the Lewiston, Maine, law firm of Brann & Isaacson, LLP, providing counseling and litigation services. He served more than ten years as counsel to a leading direct marketer, working closely with senior executives, human resource managers and others. He has managed trademark portfolios in the United States and throughout the world, especially in the Pacific Rim, and has been active as a designated representative and committee member for the International Trade Association.

Following graduation from law school in the mid-1970s, he was an associate for several years with the Washington, D.C., law firm of Howrey & Simon, where he focused on complex antitrust and trade regulation cases, and also at the firm of Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth in Washington, where he represented broadcast media clients in a wide range of Federal Communications Commission issues.

A native of Bangor, Fred received his bachelor's degree cum laude from Dartmouth College in 1973 and his law degree cum laude from the University of Maine School of Law in 1976. In law school, he served on the staff of the Maine Law Review and as a legal writing instructor. In 1980, he earned a Master's of Law in Taxation (LLM) from the Georgetown University Law Center.  He has appeared in Federal and State courts throughout the United States.

A resident of North Yarmouth, Fred is married and has two sons. He has served as a coach with Casco Bay Youth Hockey; he is also a founder, board member and past president of the Foundation for Faces of Children, which supports research and education at Children's Hospital in Boston.
