2019 2L Summer Associate

Portland, ME

Preti Flaherty is a fast growing mid-sized (approximately 100 lawyer) New England based law firm with offices in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Washington, DC. Preti Flaherty offers a 10-week summer associate program in its Portland, Maine office that provides students who have completed their second year of law school with a broad range of experiences and opportunities. We are seeking a 2L candidate who is highly motivated, demonstrates exceptional potential and has ties and a bonafide interest in a career in Maine or New England with Preti Flaherty. Although the summer associate program is based out of the Portland, Maine office, summer associates will gain exposure to the firm’s offices in Augusta, Maine, Concord, NH, and Boston, MA offices as well.

Billing Specialist

Portland, ME

Preti Flaherty is a regional law firm with more than 100 lawyers with offices in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. The firm is currently seeking a part-time (25-30 hours per week) Billing Specialist for our Portland office.

Job Summary

The Billing Specialist is responsible for performing Billing & Accounting duties according to standard Firm procedures.  Duties include: creation and distribution of monthly client/matter billing reports, working with Billing Attorneys and staff to edit and produce client invoices, updating and maintaining billing related client and matter data and documentation to support these duties.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Run monthly billing reports and distribute to attorneys for review
  • Transfer time/costs and re-run new BIMs and bills; review, verify and edit time/cost for matters assigned working with attorneys and legal assistants to ensure accuracy
  • Process and post invoices in Accounting system
  • Process electronic invoices
  • Update and maintain billing related Client and Matter data in Accounting system
  • Respond to internal/external Billing and Accounts Receivable inquiries
  • Other administrative finance duties as assigned
     

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of Accounting, Billing & Accounts Receivable areas as well as basic knowledge of general office procedures
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial information
  • Exceptional customer service skills; ability to respond to requests from internal/external customers in a prompt, professional manner
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, professional environment with ever-changing deadlines & priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word); experience with billing/accounting software package; ability to operate calculator keypad
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality concerning financial & employee information
  • 3-5 years relevant work experience preferred
  • Associates and/or Bachelor’s degree preferred

Litigation Paralegal

Portland, ME

Responsibilities:
The Litigation Paralegal is responsible for a variety of tasks including: meeting with clients, attorneys and legal support staff, legal research, document preparation and production, electronic discovery, information management (imaging, coding, etc.), and trial support.

Qualifications:

  • Solid experience using litigation support software.
