Walter Sullivan practices as Of Counsel with Preti Flaherty's Labor and Employment and Government Affairs groups from the Boston office. He focuses his practice in advising employers on various related issues, including compliance with federal and state anti-discrimination laws, labor relations, workforce harassment, compliance with wage and hour laws, employee leave issues under the FMLA, ADA and other state leave laws, reasonable accommodation issues relative to the ADA and other state reasonable accommodation laws, issues involving employee discipline and/or termination and wrongful termination. Walter also focuses his practice on advocating for clients before the Massachusetts Legislature, the Executive Branch and other state and federal agencies, and local and county governments, concentrating on racing and gaming laws, anti-discrimination laws and alcoholic beverages laws. Walter is a certified mediator.

Before joining Preti Flaherty, Walter served as Chairman of the Massachusetts State Racing Commission, where he worked with the Administration and Legislature on gaming issues, oversaw investigations of alleged violations of the Massachusetts General Laws and rules and regulations. He conducted numerous adjudicatory, regulatory and administrative proceedings.

Walter served as the Commissioner and Chair of the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination where he oversaw investigations and prosecutions of alleged violations of state and federal anti-discrimination laws in the areas of employment, housing and public accommodations. He conducted numerous adjudicatory and regulatory hearings and mediations.

Walter also served as Chairman/Commissioner of the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission. He oversaw the investigations of applicants seeking on-premise, off-premise, wholesaler, supplier and manufacturer alcoholic beverages licenses and investigations ensuring compliance with the Alcoholic Beverages Control Act and violations of the Act. He conducted hundreds of adjudicatory and regulatory hearings.

Walter began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney, holding positions with the Middlesex County and Plymouth County District Attorney's Offices, as well as the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General. He has also taught civil litigation courses to law students at Boston College Law School. As a double Eagle he is actively involved at both Boston College and Boston College Law School.
