Thomas P. Pinansky joined Preti Flaherty in 2004 as counsel to the firm, and focuses on international corporate law and cross-border disputes, including trans-jurisdictional litigation and international arbitration. He is the senior foreign attorney (Partner) at the law firm Barun Law in Seoul, Korea where he is involved in a broad range of international corporate and advocacy matters, representing many of the world's largest companies.
Prior to joining Barun Law, Tom practiced law with Kim, Shin & Yu in Korea, Hogan & Hartson in Washington, DC and with Vinson & Elkins in Austin, Texas. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Washington, D.C. Bar.
Tom serves as Vice Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce, and was Chairman from the spring of 2001 until 2003. He currently serves as Vice Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea and sits on the Executive Committee of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Korea. He was also appointed as a Special Advisor to the Kiwi Chamber of Commerce in Korea and serves as a Chairperson of the Panel of Experts of the Korea-European Union Free Trade Agreement (Trade and Sustainable Development Chapter).
Tom serves as a Korean Commercial Arbitration Board arbitrator. He is a panelist on the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre and is also a World Intellectual Property Organization arbitrator. Tom sits on the informal roster of arbitrators for the International Centre for the Resolution of Investment Disputes. In 2011, he was appointed to the Panel of Arbitrators of the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration.
Tom has written and spoken extensively on Asia-related business and legal matters. He was recognized by AsiaLaw as a "Leading Lawyer of 2009" for his general international corporate practice. He is listed by Chambers and Partners for his work International Dispute Resolution.
A Maine native, he was born in Portland and resides primarily in Seoul with his wife, Roxanne Holland, and also works frequently from Hawaii and Maine.
