Sharon G. Newman joined Preti Flaherty's Environmental Practice Group in 1998 after practicing environmental law in Washington State and Ohio. Her practice includes advising developers, venture capital firms, and lenders regarding environmental issues in the purchase and sale of real property and businesses. She also counsels clients on environmental compliance and remediation issues and represents members of the regulated community before State and Federal environmental regulatory agencies.
Sharon is a former Assistant Regional Counsel with the Hazardous Waste Division of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 10 (Seattle), where her work focused on the negotiation of hazardous waste cleanup agreements in the Superfund and RCRA programs. Previously, she served as law clerk to Chief Justice Jay Rabinowitz of the Supreme Court of Alaska.
PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS
Sharon has lectured and written extensively on a wide variety of subjects, including the environmental aspects of business and real estate transactions, the Maine Voluntary Remedial Action Program, the Maine Uniform Environmental Covenants Act, and recent developments in Maine stormwater regulation.
