Biography

Shana is a Director and Co-Chair of the firm’s Litigation Practice Group, practicing primarily from the firm’s Boston and Portland offices. Her 18 years of experience as a civil litigator have afforded her the insight to handle matters ranging from general liability to the most complex medical malpractice claims. Shana assists a wide array of health care and other clients with professional liability and insurance defense litigation in state and federal courts in Massachusetts, Maine, and New Hampshire.

Shana represents health care institutions, physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals when their patient care and practices require defense against allegations of negligence made in lawsuits and other claims. Her clients trust her tenacity and creativity in forging the most solid defense on their behalf. She is adept at learning and understanding the scientific and medical concepts involved in each case. Her aptitude for working with expert witnesses, including medical experts, allows her to distill and effectively communicate complicated scientific and medical information so that it is understood by the lay-person juries that decide the cases.

Shana recognizes the emotional toll that being named as a defendant in a lawsuit can take on healthcare providers and tailors her approach to each client based on the client’s individual needs and personality. She devotes herself to making her clients’ experience with the legal system less intimidating and unfamiliar, allowing her clients to focus on what is most important—mounting the strongest defense.

Insurers and claims representatives trust Shana to conduct the thorough case investigation, analysis of liability, and risk assessment required in evaluating which cases can be successfully defended at trial and which cases should be settled. She is skilled at fostering the kind of collaboration between the involved parties needed to achieve the best result.

Shana represents clients in all aspects of litigation, from discovery to trial, arbitration and mediation, before trial courts, state appellate courts, and medical malpractice panel hearings and tribunals. In addition, she responds to claims filed with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine and Board of Registration in Nursing.
