Randall B. Weill is a former Trial Attorney for the Civil Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and concentrates on the resolution of business disputes with a focus on complex litigation, including class actions, antitrust claims and government investigations. He also counsels business clients on various corporate and commercial matters, including Hart-Scott-Rodino filings, competition law, private securities offerings and rights and obligations under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).
Randall is the contributing author for the United States for Serving Process and Obtaining Evidence Abroad, a yearbook published in 1998 by Kluwer Law International. He also authored an article on business activities outside the United States that can create jurisdiction in the United States Courts in "International Judicial Assistance in Civil Matters," a 1999 publication of The Center for International Legal Studies in Salzburg, Austria.
He was born in Port Jervis, New York, and graduated cum laude from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, in 1969 with a bachelor of science degree in geology. He earned his law degree in 1977 at the University of Virginia School of Law.
Following law school, he practiced law in Washington, D.C., with Howrey & Simon, a firm specializing in antitrust litigation, from 1977 until he joined the Justice Department in 1980. He joined Preti Flaherty in 1983.
He is a member of the Maine State and Cumberland County bar associations and the Antitrust section of the American Bar Association. Randall currently serves on the Board of Advisory Trustees of the Portland Stage Company and is a Trustee of the First Parish Unitarian Church in Portland. He is a former chairman of the Fort Williams Advisory Commission, a former member of the committee that created the museum now located at the lighthouse keeper's quarters at Portland Head Light and a past chairman of the Cape Elizabeth Television Advisory Board.
He and his wife, Kitty Coughlin, live in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and have two daughters, Virginia and Olivia.
