01.20.2010
January 20, 2010 – Portland, ME – Preti Flaherty announced today that attorney Neal F. Pratt was recently elected Chair of the Cumberland County Civic Center Board of Trustees. Pratt has served as a member of the Board, representing the districts of Westbrook, Falmouth and Scarborough, since 2003. He will serve as the Chair of the Board for the 2010 term.
Pratt, who also chairs a Joint Task Force – consisting of the Trustees, the County, the City of Portland and the Portland Pirates hockey franchise – that is charged with exploring potential renovations to the 33 year-old Civic Center, will focus his term on moving forward with upgrading the facility to ensure it remains a fan-friendly environment and competitive with other, newer arenas that are being built.
"The Civic Center has been a tremendous asset to this region providing millions of fans with various forms of top flight entertainment and community events while fueling the economy by spinning off $12 million to $15 million dollars annually", Pratt said. "Building a new facility is unrealistic given economic and political considerations, but we have the opportunity to make some meaningful changes to the Civic Center that will help to keep it competitive going forward", he added.
Pratt is a Partner with the law firm Preti Flaherty, where he is a member of the Litigation Group. He is a well-known trial attorney and focuses his practice on Business Litigation and Construction Law. Prior to joining Preti Flaherty Neal was a partner, General Counsel and Trial Department chair in another major Maine law firm.
He is a graduate of Franklin Pierce Law Center ('89) and The University of Maine ('83). He resides in Scarborough.
