Sports Law Attorney Matthew Lane is one of only 25 Athletes named a "Silver Star" by the CAA

02.25.2010

Preti Flaherty is pleased to congratulate attorney Matthew Lane who has been named a "Silver Star" by the Colonial Athletic Association. The CAA named its "Silver Stars" – the 25 athletes who have had the greatest impact on the conference over the past 25 years – to commemorate its 25th anniversary.

As one of only 25 athletes from a pool of nearly 50,000 athletes who have competed with the CAA over the past quarter-century, this honor is an incredible achievement.

According to the CAA announcement, "The process for selecting the Silver Stars was an extensive one. Earlier this year, 25-member Silver Anniversary teams were selected in each of the CAA's 21 championship sports by a panel of current and former coaches. From that group of 525 Silver Anniversary team members, over 100 athletes were nominated for consideration for Silver Stars. A panel of administrators from each of the CAA's 12 current members then went through the difficult task of narrowing the list to 25."

Lane's athletic accolades include being named an 11-time NCAA Division I All-American in cross country and track and field and a four-time Academic All-American, a three-time CAA Cross Country Athlete of the Year and two-time Track Athlete of the Year, two-time Eastern Track & Field Athlete of the Year, and the 2001 USTCA Male National Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year.

Lane competed in cross country and track and field for William and Mary from 1996-2001. Prior to joining Preti Flaherty, he was a professional runner, sponsored by Nike, from 2001 to 2006 and was a member of two U.S. national teams. Lane now practices Sports Law and Litigation and continues his involvement in athletics as an assistant cross country coach for Yarmouth High School. He resides in Portland, Maine.
