Civic Center Decision Coming

A $33 million proposal to renovate the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland will appear as a bond question on the November ballot and asks voters to invest in the nearly 35-year-old building.
"The time is now for investment in a center of activity that benefi ts all of Cumberland County," said Neal F. Pratt, chairman of the board of trustees of the Cumberland County Civic Center. "The Civic Center brings in between $15 and $20 million a year in economic impact. The renovated facility is projected to generate half a billion dollars in revenue over the next 25 years. People from all over Cumberland County work at the Civic Center. An investment now is a win for every resident of the county."
