Brendan Kennedy is an intellectual property attorney involved in the prosecution of US and foreign patents in the electrical, software and mechanical arts. He previously practiced with Weingarten, Schurgin, Gagnebin & Lebovici and currently practices as an Associate in the firm's Boston office. In addition to his patent work, Brendan also negotiates agreements and pursues trademark and copyright protection, as well as advising clients on the same.
Intellectual Property Legal Management
Brendan helps clients manage their current and potential intellectual property assets. As part of this work, he provides assessments of infringement and the validity of patents and patentability opinions to companies and individuals seeking to obtain patent protection. He also performs freedom to operate studies and due diligence investigations pertaining to intellectual property and. advises clients on licensing issues and other technology based agreements.
About Brendan
Before joining Preti Flaherty and WSGL, Brendan began his legal career with intellectual property law firms in New York City where he was primarily involved in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications for clients that varied in size from start-ups to multi-national conglomerates.
Brendan also has a background as an electrical engineer and a software programmer for several technology-based companies. His technical experience included work in robotic controls, vision inspection, and network and router implementations. He also worked as an application and system programmer, performed real-time multi-tasking programing and network management.
Brendan received both his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, and Juris Doctor degree from The University of Connecticut. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society and served as an intern with the Honorable Alfred V. Covello at the Federal District Court for Connecticut. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and Connecticut. He is also registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
